Craig Aldous, General Manager for Elders Fine Foods loves nothing more than good wine, except perhaps one that declares it has ‘Vindependence’!
“We have happily added renowned Clos Du Val wines from California’s Napa Valley to our wine list, and there is no doubt that their ‘Vindependence’ as they like to call it, has won us over. These are truly exceptional wines in a class all their own,” Craig said.
Clos Du Val winery was found around 40 years ago in California’s premier wine making region, the Napa Valley. Since that time the winemakers have been dedicated to crafting world-class wines that are made with an attitude of independence for developing wines that are allowed to age with grace and which will pair perfectly with food.
“For us at Elders Fine Foods, Clos Du Val wines fit perfectly with our philosophy of sourcing the world’s best food products from the world’s best suppliers,” Craig said.
French borne winemaker Bernard Portet and American business and John Goelet founded Clos Du Val in 1972, operating across two locations – 130 acres at Stags Leap District in the Napa Valley and 180 acres in the cooler Carneos region which is home to Clos Du Val’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Only 3 miles long, the Stags Leap District was first recognised for its exceptional quality in 1976 when Stags Leap Wine Cellars took first place with their Cabernet Sauvignon at the coveted Paris Wine Tasting. A decade later in 1986, another Stags Leap fine wine was nominated at the Paris Wine Tasting and again, the region produced a winner with the Clos Du Val 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Located just north of San Pablo Bay, the Carneros District spans the entrance to both Napa and Sonoma Valleys. The cooling breeze off San Pablo Bay, just three miles to the southwest, allows for a long, even growing sea son that encourages the grapes to reach their full maturity, while the rocky, clay loam reduces the yield per vine, producing highly concentrated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit of intense varietal character.
The Elders Fine Foods cellar now offers the following Clos Du Val wines:
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
